2 Corinthians- 5:17 "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, they are a NEW creation. the old things passed away, behold the new has come"
I've always really liked the idea of making something new. I obsess over it. Particularly with possessions, (especially trainers) Ill clean. polish and scrub. I refuse to leave a mark on them. I'll put the laces in the wash, I'll buy special stain repellent sprays, I have a toothbrush that scrubs the nooks and crannies, I have trainer paint... Name it, and I'll do it, to keep my shoes looking new. I want them to be new because that's when they're at their best. That's when they look best, That's when they're most impressive. That's the original design.
So to say it blows my mind, that my Father is a God that is just as, and even more obsessed with making ME new is an understatement. Scripture tells me He makes ALL things new, and its continuous. Even when we are unaware, He is scrubbing, and polishing and pulling and refining. As long as we let him. (God is a gentleman after all).
Does it hurt? Absolutely it hurts, and God knows it does. He is fully aware, but this is just yet another illustration of the incomparable love that he holds for us. This is hard to wrap your head around, but our heavenly father loves us so much, that he doesn't save us from the sorrow and pain, he doesn't rescue us from the anguish that often comes with being made new, because he knows, that the end product is to incredible for us to miss out on. He loves us too much to leave us the same. Sit on that for a second.
The outcome is unreal. He doesn't delete your past, you get to take your past with you, (wait for it) but it's no longer baggage, it's fuel. Even in making us new He doesn't erase the pain, the hurt, the shame or the sadness. He does one better, He uses all those things as the key instruments in the constant renewal of the ones He loves. Again fulfilling the promise that he will make ALL things work together for the good of those that love Him. (Romans 8:28)
Trust Him. He knows what he's doing. He doesn't bluff. You need a guarantee?, Its right there in an empty grave. He sent his Son to die to prove his obsession. To prove that He's in this for long haul.
So hang on, through the pain and the hurt, don't wish it away. It's all part of His illustrious plan to amaze you with His grace. The creator of the universe knows your name. You're in good hands.
